What are the benefits of a shampoo bar?

1. Water-saving
Although you still need a fair amount of water to soak the shampoo in, scrub and then rinse it out of your hair, the bar itself is not formulated with the same amount of water that gives its liquid counterpart its consistency. From production, shampoo bars are immediately better for the planet.

2. Less water = more potent ingredients
Being formulated with less water means there is a higher concentration of other ingredients in the shampoo bar. The shampoo bar and conditioners can work in their most potent form without being diluted. In the long run, this means your hair gets a powerful dose of the key ingredients.

3. Less plastic
Without the liquid, there is no need for plastic bottles that you might forget to recycle.

4. Longer lifespan
As with liquid shampoos, the number of times you can use a shampoo bar depends greatly on how often you wash your hair, how much you apply to it at each wash, and how you store your bar between uses. Pro-tip: Don't leave it in a place where water could potentially collect (for example, a soap dish with no drain). Instead, let it drain and dry before next use.

5. Space-saving
You may already have an abundance of natural hair care products in your shower and cabinets. A shampoo bar means one less bottle to worry about.

6. Travel-friendly
While packing for a trip may not be a top priority these days, it's helpful to know that shampoo bars are not a problem at customs. You also don't have to worry about it leaking.

Do shampoo bars make your hair greasy?
Especially if you have finer curls or have experienced this with traditional two-in-one shampoo and conditioner formulas. If you're worried about a shampoo bar weighing down your locks, look for one formulated with lightweight ingredients such as argan and grapeseed oils.

How do you use a shampoo bar?
Once you find the right shampoo bar for your curl type and texture, you can easily incorporate one into your wash-day routine. If you've ever used a bar of soap on your body, you know the drill.

Soak hair with water. Water will help create the much-needed lather. So make sure your hair is completely submerged in water.

Wet the bar. There is no need to soak the bar in water; a light pass in the shower will suffice.

Lather up. You can create some suds by rubbing the shampoo bar together in the palm of your hands or rubbing it directly onto your hair. If you choose the latter, it may be helpful to lather in sections. This way, the shampoo thoroughly coats your hair from root to tip and front to back.

Leave it in. In the same way you would give your hair a good shampoo with a liquid variety, do the same with a bar. Massage the shampoo into your scalp to remove any product buildup at the roots, then work it into the strands by clasping sections of hair between your palms and rubbing together from top to bottom.

Rinse thoroughly. Thoroughly rinse all shampoo out of your hair.
